FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1.) How many substances can/must be used in the filtration device?

There is no minimum number or maximum number of substances that must be used. The idea is trial and error. However, for testing lab purposes, a minimum of 3 substances had to be tested.

2.) How often does the lab meet?

The lab meets once a week on Fridays for 2 hours.

3.) How do you get the materials to build a filter?

The goal is to pretty much find materials individually as a group. This allows for more creativity in design and materials.

4.) How did you choose group members?

Group members were chosen on our own. Nicole has worked with both Jeff and Matt previously in other design labs, and Cheyenne and Charles are good friends of Matt and Jeff.

5.) What substances do you test through your filter to conclude it works?

There are 3 substances. An organic substance that is nile red dye, a copper solution and aluminum coated glass beads substance.

6.) How do you conclude it works?

Basically the "chemicals" are in the color. Each substance should come out clear after the filter. The nile red should be clear, and the copper, a light blue color, should be clear. The aluminum glass beads should no longer have glass beads.
